layer dia box 'gone awol'
« on: November 25, 2005, 10:15:08 AM »
After a power cut last night the layer properties dia box has disappeared. I CTRL-ALT-DEL my machine weeknights and this was the case last nite.

All the other dia boxes are working fine just the layer one is AWOL.

Anyone experienced this before?? Or anyone know of a rememdy?

Ive tried changing the desktop size to see if its moved out of the screen area, but the res is set to 1280 x 1024 (max)
Short of a reinstall im stumped?

TaVM guys and gals

thats missing too.....
the acad bar lightens up (as if to switch to the new window) which doesnt appear.

The command starts, but no dcl...hitting esc still does stop the command and return to the main drg window.

Before a full reinstall, you should consider a repair install.  These seem to be more successful than with previous releases and thankfully so.  With Civil 3D 2006 a repair install is a bi-weekly affair when commands go missing.

Not with the repair, although it is not a bad idea to copy them somewhere safe just in case.  The only thing you should have to do is any add any service pack that had been applied.

Did you try setting the display so autocad was NOT maximized?  If not try doing so and then minimize the autocad window or move it around.  At times, this will expose renegade boxes or even the command line when it gets lost.

A free hint - if you only have one monitor run autocad this way and narrow up the screen a few pixels.  You can then have large dialog boxes like "properties" in the strips always available as a flyout without worrying about them docking or covering your working area.

Big G,

I had this same problem on one of the CAD stations here. The problem showed up on Vanilla Acad after installing LDD 2005 w/ Civil Design. A  complete uninstall\reinstall was the only thing that fixed the problem here as well.

[guess]It has been moved off screen[/guess]

Try increasing your monitor resolution as high as it will go (hopefully it's not already there) and you might find it.

The dialog box location appears to be stored in the profile.  Try changing profiles and see if it reappears.

Not sure if this helps.
But when the command lines dissapears I use this process:

Sometimes users get in a hurry or just aren't careful, and can accidentally drag and drop the command line area, losing it in the process.  Carefully follow this Registry Edit procedure to get it back.

   1. Shut down AutoCAD if it's running.
   2. Click on Start, then choose Run.
   3. Type REGEDIT and choose OK.
   4. On the left pane, double click on "HKEY_CURRENT_USER".
   5. Double click on "Software".
   6. Double click on "Autodesk".
   7. Double click on "AutoCAD".
   8. Double click on "R15.0"
   9. Double click on "ACAD-###:###".
  10. Double click on "Fixed Profile".
  11. Double click on "Command Line Windows".
  12. On the right pane, double click on "Dock Window Position".
  13. Several numbers should be highlighted, simply press "0".
  14. Choose OK, then close the Registry Editor.
  15. Restart AutoCAD, the command prompt should be back

Would it work for a layer dialog box?
I'm not sure, so wondering if tweaking other variables that affect the layer dialog box would bring it back.
Always a good idea to back up the registry key before mucking around with it.
