(Microstation) CopyClip w/ a basepoint
« on: February 06, 2008, 09:46:38 PM »
Have a few months w/  MS but I haven't seen any options w/ copyclip.

Is there a way to specify a base point (a selected point or even 0,0), when copying to a clipboard? and when pasting?

Thx's

Not that I know of... what I do is to draw a temporary line to the point I WOULD use as the basepoint and include that in the copy.

Hope it helps a bit...

if you open the file you are trying to copy from and type in base, then either pick or enter the base you want
that should do what you are trying to do.

Finally got a chance to try the copyclip yesterday and I could not get "base" to work, either before or after selecting elements.
I type base in the key in box and get an unknown command in XM, but being new I'm sure there is an option/data clk or something I'm not doing right

oops got mixed up with autocad. For microstation I would probably make a cell or reference the drawing in and
copy what I wanted. I find copy and past from clipboard a little dodgy sometimes the stuff gets slightly modified by windows. Anyway as for your original question with microstation I find it usually picks the center
of the objects you pick and then you have to move them as required. If you are doing something fairly often
I would create a cell and make the origin the insertion point you want.
Sorry for the confusion

Belated - sorry.

If you are talking about using copyclip with MicroStation elements, simply drag to select all elements, and snap (tentative) to the point you wish to be the insertion point . I've found this works well. Does that make sense?

ok paste w/ original coordinates........its on topic....kinda...sorta....

a couple of weeks ago I was going to post about pasting from a clipboard and as the mouse was moving from the edit>paste pulldown to the drawing area the elements would automatically insert at the original points, they were highlighted, (the magenta, as selected elements) but I could not keep that postion. Of course lft clk would accept that point where the pointer was, rt clk dismissed the paste command. Tried on a second dwg and whatever it was would not happen again, too many hours in the cube(?). That was a couple weeks ago.

Today, pasting from the clipboard and the elements would auto insert to the original postion, only temporary, until clking the mouse.

There seems to be a way to paste to same postion as the original copy, there is just a trick it.

(hope this made sense)
