C3D 2008 Proxy Error
« on: August 18, 2008, 12:59:59 PM »
I am new to the Swamp and to C3D, so hopefully you all can give the rookie a little break.

We have upgraded one our LT seats to the NEW C3D 2009, and have not yet upgraded the 2008 version as of yet.  I am getting an error when I open a drawing in C3D 2008, that was created in C3D 2009.  The error says "The drawing was created in a newer version of Civil 3D. All entities created by Civil 3D within the drawing are in a proxy state.  Additionally, all commands, settings, and displays of Civil 3D are disabled for this drawing."
When I open, with C3D 2008, an existing drawing or a template initially created in C3D 2009 a receive the error. Is there a fix for this error?

I would appreciate any help,

mtc49

First, welcome to the Swamp mtc!

Second, sorry for the bad news, but C3D drawings are not backward compatible in any release thus far. Once opened & saved in a new release, you are stuck editing it in that release.

:-(  So I am assuming that the dwt I created in "09 with all of the label styles, point styles, etc will not be able to be saved back so to speak either.  If not would I be able to those individual styles and desc. files that I created and somehow copy them to the '08 version?  Or will I have to create a new dwt in '08?

You assume correctly. Yes, both versions will need their own DWT's. Too bad you started with the 2009 DWT, though. You can bring one from 2008 into 2009 and then you'd just need to adjust those styles that are new/different. But I'm unaware of any way to go the other direction.
