Recreate the way you do your projects.
« on: May 15, 2008, 12:14:17 PM »
Ok this my chance to make the most out of civil.I'm silently making the switch from autocad vanilla to c3d and i have lots of questions on how to automate the things that all of this time i was making manually.To start off i'm attaching some profile data bands,the way we do them here in Greece or at least the way we were taught to do them on the road designing course.

Here's the legend explanation (cause drawing labels are written in greek)
--------------------------------------------------------
First ->Proposed Ground Elev.
Second -> Finished Ground Elev.
Third -> Section names
Fourth ->Distance bewtween sections
Fifth ->Distance from start of alignment
Sixth ->Stationing
Seventh ->Grading
Eight ->Diagram showing Curve direction
Nine ->Superelevetion Diagram

EDIT:Oh sorry i forgot to ask the question.The question is,how can i recreate the exact data bands from within civil so they are created automatically each time,the way the show up on the drawing file i attached.

Just add the Data Bands you desire to your Profile View Style  in your DWT, start all new drawings from that, and have fun.

Well I agree of course,but the difficulty lies on creating the desired bands.How can i set each band to display the required information?

Here is how to create an EMPTY band; your assignment decide what data you want in the Band.

create your own as described in the following procedure.

         To create and apply white-space bands
         1.Create a new Profile Data band and name it

            appropriately(for example, "white space: right side").
         2.On the Band Details Tab of the Profile Data Band Style
            dialog box, do the following:
             Change the Text Box Width setting to 1.00 (or other desired

             size).

             Change the Text Box Position to Right Of Band.
             Note: You may need to change the position setting (and band
             name), depending on your particular profile band

             configuration.
         3.On the Display Tab of the Profile Data Band Style dialog

            box, turn off the display of all components.
            Note: If you want to see where these bands are placed around
            the profile view, you can leave the following two items
            visible, and then turn them off in the band style later when
            you are ready to plot:

             Band Border

             Band Title Box

                                                                ...
       http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=1231    3/7/2008                                                              ...
       Autodesk - AutoCAD Civil 3D Services & Support - Prof    Page 2 of 2

         4.Save the style.
         5.Add the new white space band style to the Band Set that you
            plan to use for the profiles that will be created on the

            sheets.
         6.On the Bands tab of the Band Set dialog box, change the Gap
            setting for the white space style to 2.00 (or other desired

            distance).
         7.Select this Band Set style when using the Create View Frames

            wizard.
         Note: This band style must be created prior to creating the
         view frame group because the profile view style and band set

         must be known when the view frame group is created.

Ok so i had a really long play around with all these and i managed a great deal,but i stil have a few questions.

A)How can i create sample lines for sectioning that consist of the major stations (Start of spiral,Start of curve,end of curve,end of spiral) so that  i can later add them to the data band?

B)When you use elevation as band type,how can you set profile2 to none?Cause i want to have EG and FG on seperate data bands.

C)How can you set the precision for elevetions

Sample Line Group

Band Sets, Use Different Profile Information in the separate bands for each profile.

Label Style Settings (within your Data Bands)

That image was junk...

Sample Line Group
Yes off course,but what option?For example i created a group using the option "range of station" and added every 50 meter increments.

Now i want in my two other created groups the "curve group" and "spiral group" to add to each of them, sections every curve start/end and on every spiral start/end.Which option does that automatically?

By range of stations would do this if you also have those settings set in the Corridor Parameters.

Not sure what you mean by 'curve' or 'spiral' group, are these alignments, or happening along your alignment?

A)how do you set the corridor parameters to include sections on curve start and end points.

B)I meant i have created independent sample line groups,one named curves and one for spirals,so i can individuallize the sections.

Go look at the Command Settings for Create Sample Lines.

And WHY?  Typically one samples ALL sections along a base alignment in one pass.

for naming purposes.I need curve section to contain a certain letter and then number,same with spirals,while the incremented section will have plain numbering 1,2,3...
