Topic: Basic line table for civil 3d 2008

Ok, I think this may be in the wrong forum, so mods, please feel free to move it. 

I'm trying to create a plat for survey, civil engineering.  Only problem is when I try to create a line table it asks me for tags.  Why do I need to set up tags?  I just want the line information.  I'm not new to cad, but I thought this would be a pretty basic question.  Thanks for any help.

If the line data is only in a table, with no tag, then how do you equate the data to the line?

Typically, Line L1 (for example) in the Line Table would also be marked L1 in the drawing, so the reader of the document can make sense of the Line Table.
