buying new plotter ---- your opinion please
« on: August 28, 2008, 05:37:26 AM »
Hey all

we are an HVAC contracting company, we got a quote for two large scale printers from xerox, models are

xerox 6204 (laser B&W - 36" roll)
xerox 7142 (inkjet colour - 42" roll)

the salesgirl told us laser is cheaper to run but more expenisve to buy

which one would you go for? i like to have colour in my drawings but laser is faster & cheaper

thanks guys!

Can't really help you, Chris. The 6204 is A1, the 7142 is A0. Personally I would steer clear of xerox, I've never really liked them. But you want colour. Of the two, I'd go for the laser, they are faster, but make sure you got plenty cartridges ready.

There are many other breeds to choose from, don't be smitten by a gorgeous sales wo-man from xerox.  :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

she was hot actually :P but this company always worked with xerox and their after sales service is good

so 36" is ISOA1 landscape? would i be able to print ISOA0 portrait?

the laser is B&W. i usually print in B&W but colour has been useful sometimes...

Yup, colour is usefull a lot......but it just means rather than copying the plot...you have to replot it.

You can plot A0 on the 36" as potrait......probably.....bit of mucking around. I'm not that familiar with A0.....so I don't really know....but A1 is 841x594, so turn that sideways......and you have whatever...I think 2x594 = 1188....I really don't know...not that familiar with the A0 size.

The new Oce colorwave is probably faster than both of those. What is your budget and how many sq. ft. do you print a month?

One of the advantages of OCE is.....you don't buy the plotter, you just pay a small fee for all plots you produce from it. But that is purely by how good you are at negotiating a deal. Our OCE plotter is on that basis....and you have access to OCE techs at all times. No plotter...no income for them.

Oh and...the OCE can plot as fast as I can send the plot to the OCE.

i have no idea about prints per month since i just started working here...

oce is good because i used them at a hospital project, we had three TDS400, very fast, but here speed is not the most important thing...

leasing is an option too but i'm not the one negotiating

We have a 6204 here.
No problems with it.
That is to say, I like it.  YMMV.
