Problem with 3DOrbit
« on: May 29, 2008, 01:07:02 PM »
I have modeled an object and I want to rotate the object to a different perspective, however, whenever I try to 3DOrbit, I am greeted with a warning that you cannot use "walk and fly" without setting the view to perspective. Well, ok, but I don't want to use walk and fly, I want to merely rotate the object to a different view. Regardless of the number of times I select "do not warn me again" I get it everytime I use 3dorbit.

Finally I succombed to the incessant warnings and set the view to perspective, only now, I cannot orbit the object as I would like, it is as if it is locked into a zx plane rotation. No matter how many times I change the setting to turn off the "fly" option (right click while in the 3dorbit command) after checking the option I want and start to orbit, I get that stupid warning about not being able to "walk and fly" without setting the view to perspective, and sure enough, a right click confirms the setting has set itself back to "fly".

What am I missing, and when did Autodesk sneak this new feature into the software?

what version are you using?
for 08 I would suggest inter the 3d orbit mode
Rt-Click and select Other Navigation Modes.....FREE ORBIT

It happens in both 07 and 08

In both I have entered the 3dorbit mode, right click and selected free orbit, as soon as I release the mouse button after orbiting, to reposition the mouse to get the best view, the walk and fly palette pops up and it kicks me out of the 3dorbit command.

lets adjust your walkflysettings on the command line.

Or perhaps use this command 3DFORBIT  for free orbit....
just in case you have set a constrained orbit.
because this entry in the help leads me to believe that could be the default mode IF I am reading this correctly>>>

Dashboard: 3D Navigate panel, Constrained Orbit flyout

Ok, this is just wierd ... the problem happens only in that drawing, so I wblocked it and it works fine now ...

Oh .. and for some reason the file would also override my background color schemes and even though I changed them, they would not change as long as I had that file open.

I guess all I can do is mark this one down as a corrupted dwg file.

I believe I have overwritten it, but I will check when I am able. I was accessing it on a VNC and as you are aware, those can be frustrating when you don't have a quality connection.
