Snap Angle - USGS quad drawings
« on: March 02, 2011, 10:52:21 AM »
I work with  USGS (US Geological Survey) topographic quadrangle drawings.

I believe the snap angle on these drawings is set to the angle between magnetic north and true north. (not sure)

I always set the snap angle to zero when I work with these.

If you work with these, do you know any advantage of leaving the snap angle set a non zero value?

NO there is no advantage to be gained...given that you don't really know how or why the snap angle is set in the manner it is.

Further, IF your drawing is setup on the desired Coordinate system, attaching these files through Map, Map will automatically align them to the coordinate system of your working file(s).

Thanks for the reply. I'll just continue to ignore the snap angle and work in the state plane coordinate system. When I copy and paste to base coordinates, everything lines up the way it should.

BTW, I don't use any of the vertical products (LDT, 3Dcivil, Map ). I guess my post does fit this category better is why it was moved.

As a Survey/Engineering type I only ask; why not?

It would make you more profitable.
