Topic: Up Arrow command line repeat

In c3d2006 I could repeat the last thing typed in the command line by pressing up arrow... is there a new keybinding for this functionality?  Thanks, NUMA

You can define your own shortcut keys (or accelerator keys). The following is a short example of an Accelerators section in an MNU file.

***ACCELERATORS
ID_Line    [SHIFT+CONTROL+"L"]

I don't think that's what the OP was asking.

I believe it was about the old functionality, where it used to be possible to hit the up-arrow key to get the last thing typed.  Hit the up-arrow key to get the thing typed before that, etc.

In 2007, Autodesk changed this behavior, and now it only remembers certain things.  It's become very annoying.  I'm not at all impressed with the change.

I haven't found any way to get the old behavior back, but I haven't really looked, either.  Using Civil-3D, there have been too many other problems with higher priority.

I use it all the time in 2008, what did they change? I hadn't noticed any difference.

have you tried using the transparent commands? 'ad ( angle & distance ) 'bd ( bearing & distance ) granted the history command still has the same issues but you don't have to enter all the BS for your angle.

Yeah, I use those.  But the thing I really want is the history aspect.

For example, take creating points with manual description and manual elevation.  The elevation gets reset for every point - i.e., set point 1 and enter the elevation; now create point 2.  You must type the elevation again for Point 2, even if it is the same as for Point 1.  And it isn't possible to hit the up-arrow and "recall" the last elevation typed, because it isn't remembered in the history.

Little things like this are everywhere in Civil-3D, and they really degrade the user experience.

I just ran a little test here:

Try toggle off that pesky DYNamic input button, and or investigate your settings for DYNMODE


Shot in the dark as it won't not work as up arrow, recent input function here.

No, I keep all that DYN stuff off in C3D because it interferes with the more-useful C3D tooltips.

Are you saying that you can get ALL input in your up-arrow history list, and not just commands?  I wish I knew how you did that.  The things I usually want to repeat are the text input I give to commands, not the commands themselves.  This used to be default behavior, prior to 2007, but then Autodesk changed something.

You may me right....it seemed to work until I used a Transparent command.

Then I get AECRETURNED, which would be great, if I knew what that was!

INPUTHISTORYMODE...  does that still exist in 2007+?

Yes.  An INPUTHISTORYMODE of 4 seems to work pretty well in the newer releases.  I think the default is 15.
