Title: 'etransmit' - why?

Within the last couple of days, I have recieved files via 'Etransmit'.

I understand what this is, (I think), but is it easier than simply zipping what files you want to send, then emailing them?

'Etransmit' costs money doesn't it?

No biggy, just wondering, that's all. :?

(I don't know the people that sent me these dwgs, so I don't want to ask THEM).

ETransmit does not cost money .... other than the program that creates them for you ..... namely AutoCAD ....

Anyway the reason for using them is that it packages all xrefs, linetype defs, shape files, font files, images and any other external items required by the drawing file so that the user may open them without incident.

So ...  there you have it ...

Using the Etransmit you can either output the files to a zip file or an EXE file.Its good for collecting all the necessary files your recipient will need,but I find it its messy at arranging the files and usually arrange myself afterwards before sending.

I try not to send etransmit exe files to clients since most virus scanners won't let them through.

I just dont like the idea of an EXE file,extracing all the files to my CAD set up.Would rather be in control of what is going on,as you said the virus scanners picks them,how do you get round that zip them.So you might as well set etransmit to create a zip file.Dont think Autodesk thought this through to well :)

Actually iti is not the virus scallers that are the problem (unless you have a virus in your system), it is the fact that many companies have the IT dept. block all of certain file types, most common of them being the EXE

We use a LOT of xrefs here and it's a pain to try and gather them all without missing one or two.
You also have the option to remove paths so the recipient need not worry about files getting lost....just drop the whole thing in one folder and.....away you go!!!
Good utility.
