Express tools 4 Autocad 2000i
« on: December 16, 2004, 11:25:49 AM »
Does anyone know where I can get a quick copy of express tools (9) for autocad 2000i.

Most of us are using Acad 2005 at my place of work,  but there is the lone user who is still using 2000i and he does not have the express tools installed.  Out VIP disk from autodesk, which contains the express tools has been misplaced.  If I can get a quick copy that would be great otherwise I will have to bring in a copy from home tomorrow.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I uploaded 2 expresstools that we have loaded for A2K.  Use which ever one you can or both.
They are in the lilypond.

Ahh...The old "Misplaced disk" routine, eh?

Sorry, SPD, I can't help you.  I'll have a look, but I think the IT guy took all of the old software that we had down here.

It's more like the disk was someone's coffeemug coaster and eventually thrown out.

Once upon a time the full Expresstools Vols 1-9 were available online for download, but the site they were located on has since discontinued offering them or it has taken it off of their site ... I am not sure which...

I have that version and another version loaded for A2K.  They use some of the same tools and some are updated, but some of the tools are in one but not the other.  That goes for both of them, that's why I have them both loaded.  Though I'm not sure which is supposed to be first and second.

SPDCad,
If you haven't downloaded them yet they're ready.

Mike,
I don't know about now, but I know I downloaded the file I have from the Autodesk website a few years back and it was free then.  I don't have any kind of key or anything else to tell me it was purchased.  It is loaded on all 7 of our workstations here.

Hi Will

Snap, I also download them years ago from the Autodesk web site when they were freeware.

I just don't think they've been freeware for a number of years now.

Please note I could well be wrong with my impression of their availability, I was only making you aware of a possible issue/problem....

Cheers, Mike

I believe originally express tools was part of a VIP package offered by autodesk. You had to pay to become a VIP member and the express tools was one of the advantages of being a member.  The office I am at now has al;ways been a VIP member and we used to have lots of VIP CD's which we used as coasters.
As far as I know the express tools has never been free.  The tools now come with the plain Jane version of autocad, I believe that is because most of the tools are in autocad now.
I know there were several places on the web where you used to be able to download the tools for free, but I think Autodesk has put a stop to that now.

Hi

Autodesk offered the Express Tools for free download when AutoCAD 2000 was released. Then just before AutoCAD 2000i hit the market Autodesk changed that policy and started charging $150 (Approx) a time.

Have a good one, Mike

I dunno when they charged or when they gave them away ... but ...
In R14.01 I received "Bonus Tools" as part of the package
In A2k, express tools were included as part of the package
In A2k2, express tools were part of the package
In A2k4, express tools were part of the package
I have recently decided to upgrade to A2k5 and after checking with a local engineer, I was informed that express tools shipped with 2005 as well... at least in his it did...

Everyone here who does not have it... I don't know why .... but I have had them since their inception.... go figure ...

Hi Keith

Are you on Subscription?

If yes, that would explain why you've received them free of charge with each release.

As far as I'm aware if you only bought (No Subscription) -

AutoCAD R14
AutoCAD 2000i
AutoCAD 2002

you had to pay an additional amount to get Express Tools.

As far as I'm aware if you only bought (No Subscription) -

AutoCAD 2000

you could download for free the Express Tools from the Autodesk web site (obviously Autodesk had a moment of weakness during that period).

If you only buy (No Subscription) -

AutoCAD 2004
AutoCAD 2005

the Express Tools come "free" on the installation CD. Again Autodesk are showing their caring, giving side ;-)

Have a good one, Mike

Nope, no subscription .. and I am not a VIP either ....
In each of these versions, the expresstools were not installed (except 2000) unless I browsed to the Express folder on the CD and manually installed them.

I don't know... all I can say is that unless they have different CD's for different geographic areas or some with them and some without.

I quit trying to figure them out.... I just go with the flow
