Title: Compare Drawings

Does anyone know if there's anything out there for comparing drawings?  I don't mean the obvious stuff like blocks and lines and text, but more like the stuff you CAN'T see; XData, dictionaries, etc...  I'll even settle for something that looks at one drawing at a time and creates an external file.  Then I can compare the two to find out what's different.

One user here has a job with about 50 DWGs.  Of those 50+/- files, only ONE consistently takes approximately 10-15 minutes to open.  This just started to happen recently (or so I've been told).  The funny thing is that his jobs lately will have 1 or 2 of these kinds of files that just seem to take FOREVER to open up.  None of the other jobs that anyone in the company has or is working on, has this issue, so I'm thinking it's something he's doing.  I don't know how or what it is that he's doing, but it's definitely confined to his jobs.

How about using a Diff program such as WinDiff to compare ASCII DXF files?

Sorry I'm no help w/ the file compare, but the scenario brought back memories of a job. Site plans w/ massive topo would open in a reasonable amount of time, then I had to use a irregular viewport to make room for more notes and then it would take ~ 20 min to open. Went back to a rectangular vp and everyting was fine. (This was back in the 2000i era.)

I had something like that happen when I used Design Centre.  Is there a DC file in the directory where that drawing is stored?  I think I just deleted that file and it was back to normal...


I was going to post this screenshot of the compare function of Adept, our EDMS.  Then, I realised that it wasn't what you were looking for, but I posted it anyway...
