Open as read only problem
« on: October 17, 2008, 05:03:54 AM »
Good morning to all.

Since our upgrade to 2009 we are having difficulties opening a drawing that someone else has open. We cant open it as read only without getting the following dialog box.
Does anyone know how we can open a drawing in readonly

Many thanks
T :)

Hmmm... not seen this one... it sees it as corrupt if someone's in it but you say it opens fine if no-one's in the drawing?

I always like to cause new problems. :)
Yes, someone else is in the drawing.

Update!!! This only seems to be a problem if the person who has the drawing open is on an older version of AutoCAD and I try to open read only in 2009.

As in AutoCAD?
The network deployment was only created on Monday, with all service packs included.

Enter new value for XLOADCTL <2>:
Enter new value for XEDIT <1>:

Darn it; both of those look to be set to be not causing this problem.

Does this problem happen in reverse, i.e. you have a drawing open in 2009; and someone else tries to open the same drawing in 2008 ?

Not tried that...
I'll give it a go

just tried it, and it opens fine. It seems to only be a problem with 2009 opening a file that someone has open in 2008/2007 :(

What happens if you are the someone? I mean try opening the drawing in 2007/2008, then opening it again in 2009? I tried with C3D 2008 and C3D 2009 and wasn't able to reproduce the problem.

I only have 2009 on my machine, but when I get back to work on Monday, I'll give your suggestion a try on another machine which has 2 versions.

Thanks

I tried it too, and came to the same conclusion

I've tried it & it works fine... open drawing on machine A with 2008, open on machine B with 2009 & get open as read only warning... everything as you'd expect...

If you have another machine with 2009 or another machine with 2008 you could try different combinations to see if one set-up is corrupt... I presume this is happening on every drawing & not specific to one job or network location?
