Has anyone had any luck importing SHP files from the following link and been able to have them come into cad correctly?
http://www.fws.gov/wetlands/Data/State-Downloads.html (http://www.fws.gov/wetlands/Data/State-Downloads.html)

yes...post details of your project...
state, county, Coordinate system and I will advise with comprehensive instructions
-
Normally: Florida North Zone NAD83, US Foot
I do have a project in Dublin GA atm that I wanting this for in particular.
-
Open new file
MAPCSASSIGN>>>GA83-GeorgiaPWR (I chose this one as it is for entire state-you may chose the more local coordinate system,
if you are using or plan to use State Plane)
Command: MAPIMPORT
532561 entities were skipped due to failed coordinate transformations.0 object(s) inserted in 463 sec(s)
The files are in a NON supported CS....

looking at your options....to follow

going to suggest you download and install copy of QGIS http://qgis.org/en/site/ (http://qgis.org/en/site/)
This will import the SHP files and allow you to select them and export to a coordinate system that IS supported by MAP
or directly to the coordinate system you want to use in your project
It's fairly painless to do this.

Interesting idea. Is this any different than specifying a coordinate base when you import via map, or mapwspace?

just download the shp file
select add vector layer
path to saved shape file
it will add to the map canvas
select in left panel the layer just created
rt-click >>save as
during export selct file type and Coordinate system desired
it will transform on the way out....
Also work if you select ONLY the area your project is located in, e.g. Laurens County, GA.
Suggest you also import TIGER LINES - roads file so you know where your project is at in relation to the wetlands data
