XREF insanity
« on: September 01, 2015, 11:30:06 AM »
I wasn't part of a project that was put together and submitted earlier this year.  Our client doesn't want any XREFS and I have several Mechanical drawings with 3d objects.  At first someone used the E-transmit to bind all the xrefs and send it to the client.  6 months later, the client is finally getting around to posting files to there database, only to realize a great deal of XREFS are not included in the package.

It has now become my problem.

I have several mechanical and structural drawings that have multiple layers deep of nested XREF's.   I re-etransmitted this file to a new directory, and copied over any files that were missed in the E-transmit.  But when I go to the botom of the Nested XREFS and try to start binding, linework starts evaporating.  One in particular is a 3D model of a tank.

Looking for any advise/helpful links/suggestions  to get all of these files bound and visibly matching there unbound cousins.

A work around would be to insert the XREF files as blocks (as that is the end result of binding) and see if the linework still disappears.

A better answer is to do a thorough investigation to find out exactly what is giving you the errors and adjust accordingly but that's a lot of work, too.

Contract ought to have a cut-off date for submittal review.  After 30 days, it's automagically approved.

It would be nice if we could throw that flag but this is one of our largest clients.
Now I am dealing with AutoCAD Proxy_Entity's...   I tried to WBlock a drawing so I could insert it and it did not take the proxy entities with it.

Do you have the necessary object enablers?

That may be why they weren't binding properly.

BTW, you do not have to WBlock. You can insert the XREF file as a block. (That is unless you are modifying it for insertion.)

It seems several items were generated with a 3D software.  I'm handing off all the XREF's to be "Flattened" to 2D via verious programs.  This should solve the problem.

.. once that is fixed, I still have a lot of nested XREFs
Is there a way to capture the 3rd and 4th level of xrefs when you E-Transmit?

Why dont you eTransmit through the set "backwards" -i.e. start with the "backgrounds" and work upwards?

Once the 3D files are converted to 2D.. I will follow that method.. bind at the lowest level then step up through the hierarchy of XREFs
