going rate
« on: October 13, 2004, 11:27:38 PM »
Does anyone know what the going rate is for someone to redraw a 24"X36" drawing?  Or can someone please provide me with a link or company that can provide this service?

My discipline is reinforcing steel.  My plan is hire a contract to draw the structual drawing, then I can work off of that drawing.  I wont need any notes or fancy hatches.  Just the concrete/masonry outlines.

I use to subscribe to the cadalog magazine, but they've stopped coming.

thanks

I am not sure what the going rate is for doing drawings of that nature without actually looking at the work you want done.
I have seen rates from $60 to $250 per sheet, but it depends entirely on the quality of the work you expect and the time frame in which you want it done.

You may want to try submitting a RFP at www.resourcecad.com

I usually charge $2 /sft of building space.  Most of my clients find that resonable.

I agree with Keith thou, sometime my price will vary depending on the amount of information on the existing hard copy of the drawings.

Rebar,
Keith gives good advice.
You did not give enough information. How many different sheets need to be copied?
You indicated that the outline of the objects is all that you require. No notes at all?
Are you looking for hard copy only or do you need a ACAD DWG file as well.
I assume you have a full size set of drawings, not zeroxed or reduced in size.

One course of action would be to find a "Print Shop" that can scan the sheets you have
and create a raster image file. That would give you a "Picture of the drawing". That
could be used to quickly recreate the drawing in ACAD. Then there is the question of
accuracy of the drawing. The actual time it took to redraw the drawing from the raster
image would be relative to the required accuracy. There is software to automatically
convert a raster image to a DWG file but it would be crude by our standards and would
still need some cleanup. Keith is very fast and accurate and if you need a good outcome
I would recommend him. Although he may be too busy for your time schedule.

Thanks for the plug CAB ....

I'm coming to Canada and drawing plans with you..... It doesn't pay that good here ...even considering the currency conversion rate.

RebarDWG,

Are you doing rebar shop drawings?  Who are you working for, a fabricator?

Trim, Break and Explode might come in handy too.

Currently $2.00 CN is $1.36 US, I have never gotten that much... I am lucky if I get $0.60 US or about $0.88 CN .... maybe I am WAY TOO CHEAP...

As of late I have been getting $1.00 for Home Owners &  $0.65 to $.085 for contractors.
There is no shortage of work so it's good economics to charge what the market will bear.
When & if works slows down I'll consider lowering my prices. Just a year ago I was
charging $0.55 on the low end and $0.80 on the high end. Seems like we never get any
inflationary raises, so take it when you can get it.
